“Scene From a Car Window” by Katie Argyle

A series of nine relief prints based on what Katie witnessed from the front seat, passenger side, of a 2010 Mazda 6.

Katie Argyle is especially fond of large-scale, hand-printed, or steam roller printed, woodcuts. She is currently knee-deep in a long-term  art project based on the Canadian suburban lifestyle.

“Home, Sweet Home” brings forward a different image for each one of us, as our four members demonstrate with their concept of the phrase.

Le Chez-soi, un concept qui nous rejoint tous et toutes de façon très personnelle, selon notre vécu. Ces quatre membres présentent en estampes des facettes de la signification du terme.

Exhibition dates: May 5th to June 29th, 2016

This exhibition displays  a series of eight prints where Rod Restivo expresses his fascination with  crows which abound in the Gatineau Hills  towards the end of winter. Charles Brand Press running again

A big thanks to Steve Quick, who came to the studio yesterday, to help us with our Charles Brand press, in which one of the adjuster screws was getting stiff and hard to turn.

Steve runs Weathervane Press in Orleans and maintain his three presses. He showed his expertise by knowing what to do right away, cleaning and oiling the chain and removing old grease and re-greasing the adjuster screws. Here is Steve in action.

Thanks also to Madeleine Rousseau, a member of the Connective and Print Studio, who introduced us to Steve and took these pictures.

Leonard Gerbrandt’s Landscape Visions

Prints from the Cree country in Northern Quebec

Leonard Gerbrandt (1941-2010) was instrumental in founding the Ottawa-Gatineau Printmakers Connective. We are honoured to show his works at the Connective.

In 1973 I was commissioned to undertake an archeological survey of Cree country in northern Quebec starting at the confluence of the James Bay along the La Grande Rivière to its furthest eastern in-land source, to document the traditional summer and winter camps of the Cree people before the flooding of the James Bay Hydro Dam which would submerge vast areas of Cree county destroying all historic sites. The four etching prints – LG I-IV Transformations and the three James Bay Glaciation Patterns I-III etching prints are artistic interpretations of a two months across-country camping trek with a Cree.  The collograph  IR 192A image emerged  from a 17 day long canoe trip with my wife down the Churchill River bordered by Native Reserves – called Indian Reserves in the 1970s when the trip was taken.    Leonard Gerbrandt
